Truly Historic Day: Barack Obama Elected President

In 2004, like a lot of other people, I was first exposed to Barack Obama in his speech.  In 2004 I was 23 and had never voted in my life.  In that upcoming election I still didn’t vote, but I remember thinking at the time that if that man ever ran for president I would vote for him.  If you didn’t see the speech you should definitely watch it.

Four years later today I voted for my first U.S. president.  It wasn’t easy and required waiting in line for three and a half hours, but watching the celebrations around the world here on CNN I know I did the right thing and tomorrow I will wake up with a brighter outlook for the future.  You can ask anyone that I’ve been predicting since before Iowa this past January that Obama would become our 44th president.

People around the world have been polled three to one for Obama and I can’t tell you how excited I am knowing that going forward we will push for peace and negotiation instead of violence and war.  America will push for energy dependence and economic stability.  Let there be NO FALSE HOPE, going forward will not be easy and will require some very tough decisions.  The road will be rough and require everyone in America to sacrifice and change many things, but we now have a leader that is not afraid of shaking things up and tell the American people things they might not want to hear but need to hear.

2009 will start a new calendar year with a new face at the head of America and I’m ready to listen and do my part to go forward.  Congratulations to Barack Obama and most importantly congratulations to America!  Today is a day that will be remembered for a long time.  This truly is HISTORIC.
