Congrats! Great ending to a damn fine season. Enjoy it.
Having been a Bills fan my whole life and having list 4 Super Bowls I can imagine the surreal feeling you must be experiencing. Enjoy this for many months. Congratulations to you and your team!
Great post Kyle.
About 15 years ago my friend Tom decided to be a Saints fan, even though he's from Indiana. He did this because he's a nonconformist freak and he enjoys confusing his midwestern friends and family.
I was born in Pittsburgh, so you know who I root for. For many years Tom and I hung out at the bar on Sunday afternoons and watched the Steelers win and the Saints lose.
Two seasons ago Tom was about to give up on the Saints. He was just tired of it. I told him, "You can't back out on the Saints now, after all these years. Look at Browns fans." I said. "They don't throw in the towel. You just need a "backup" team, so if the Saints lose, you can lift your spirits when the other team wins."
"Pick the Colts as your backup," I suggested. "You're from Indiana, it just makes sense." He kind of reluctantly agreed. To encourage him, I picked the Saints as my backup - another black and gold team, and I'd be watching them with Tom anyway, so that just made sense, too.
So this season the "backup team" strategy paid off in so many ways. A lesson in patience, loyalty and solid planning.
Being from Baton Rouge, I am a Saints fan, too. Thanks for sharing your story. Didn't know you were technically a fellow Louisianian. :-)
FYI, Kyle, your first visit to the Superdome was not with Pa Pa. You went with our parents when you were about six months old. When everyone screamed the noise frightened you...you cried and had to be taken out.
AND...we never lived in Metarie. We lived in Gentilly...Your brother was born in the hospital in Metarie, but we never lived there.
