My Thoughts On Gay Marriage

I posted this on Facebook this morning. I thought it would be a good piece to share here for those of you that we aren’t friends on Facebook. — I’m not going to change my photo to an equal sign but for the record I support equality. To give a little bit more personal take I have a couple family members who are homosexual. One was my Uncle Kevin who died of AIDS in 1991 when the common belief was that HIV was transmitted completely by the homosexual community. I was TEN at the time and didn’t halfway understand what was going on but if you remember that time then you know how far we have come on this subject. Sure I know their are lots of Christians who are against this for religious beliefs. Don’t give homosexuals equal rights was...

The Undecided and Why I’ll Vote for Obama Again

Last night I spent a little time watching and reading about “The Undecided”. The Undecided is a collection of six undecided voters in battle ground states who tell their story about why they are struggling to make a decision on who to vote for in the upcoming election.  Unlike these six individuals I don’t think I’ve ever had a problem making a decision. Until 2008 I’d always made the decision that I didn’t care enough about politics to vote and then Barack Obama came along. Honestly I still don’t think I care a bit for “politics” but I do care for my country. Watching and reading about these six individual, I noticed one common theme. Many of them voted for Obama four years ago.  Like them four years ago I was swept up in the excitement. What I found most...

Truly Historic Day: Barack Obama Elected President

In 2004, like a lot of other people, I was first exposed to Barack Obama in his speech.  In 2004 I was 23 and had never voted in my life.  In that upcoming election I still didn’t vote, but I remember thinking at the time that if that man ever ran for president I would vote for him.  If you didn’t see the speech you should definitely watch it. Four years later today I voted for my first U.S. president.  It wasn’t easy and required waiting in line for three and a half hours, but watching the celebrations around the world here on CNN I know I did the right thing and tomorrow I will wake up with a brighter outlook for the future.  You can ask anyone that I’ve been predicting since before Iowa this past January that Obama would become our 44th president. People...

Obama 96.3% Chance of Winning!

As I was reading through a recent issue of Sports Illustrated lately I came across an article about a site called FiveThirtyEight.com.  It’s page 22 of the October 13, 2008 issue if you want to pull up the article for yourself.  Nate Silver, the site’s creator, is a managing partner of Baseball Prospectus who invented PECOTA.  Yes that’s right Nate is applying sabermetrics to political polling!  I have to say it’s a freaking great idea! By analyzing data while also comparing the data to historical trends and players of comparable talent and age PECOTA is better able to predict a players future returns based on a little more than just a guess and last year’s numbers.  FiveThirtyEight, which is the number of votes in the electoral college if you didn’t pick up on...
