This Site Was Long Overdue For A Redesign

It has been years since I last updated the template on this personal blog.  For the last three weeks I’ve been pretty hardcore in the backend of WordPress launching the new redesign on the nuCloud website.  For some reason it just felt right to redesign this site.  I’m sure that I’ll have additional tweaks that I’ll want to make but for now I really like this WordPress Theme from Elegant Themes. Three years ago I knew the ins and outs of WordPress.  Over the last three years while I was becoming a master of the HubSpot CMS I’d put WordPress to the side.  WordPress Themes and Plugins are the true power of the system and both have come a long way over my absence.  If you are looking for themes I’d highly recommend Elegant Themes and Theme Forest for incredible...

Newest Pet Project: Foursquare Badge Guide

I’ve been playing around with foursquare for a few weeks now and have to say that it’s quite addicting little game.  What makes it so much fun is because of all the reasons that twitter was initially fun.  It’s not overpopulated, yet, and all the people that I follow are mostly in Boston so it’s people that are local.  The most addicting part of the tool is the badges that you can acquire by doing certain things and checking into certain locations. Think of these badges like achievement points that you would get while playing games on your Xbox 360.  The more badges that you collect the more locations that you have been to and bragging rights that you have.  One way that I’m a little anal is that I want to be the best at whatever I...

Now is the Future: Streaming Online Video

A while back I wrote about the differences between living in the country and the city.  I think it’s time to start expanding on some of those changes living in the city represents.  The first change is the availability of FiOS high speed internet. My apartment is wired with the ability to use FiOS internet, which means lightning quick 20Mbps.  Needless to say it is much faster than anything I’ve had before!  With this extreme speed there are a lot of things I can do with my internet connection.  For example, I have the ability to watch high quality streaming video.  Hulu, MLB.TV, ESPN360 and YouTube have all been great to watch through the internet connection, but the most enjoyable by far has been Netflix! Netflix has multiple subscriptions but their basic...

Introducing the Memristor

Move over resistors, inductors, and capacitors a fourth circuit component has finally been introduced. The memristor has been theorized since UC Berkeley Leon Chua brainstormed the idea back in 1971, but until recently it’s only been theory. Hewlett-Packard has finally built one and the future of electronics will be unquestionably changed by this discovery. So what is a memristor? A memristor is a circuit that remembers how much current has passed through it. Why is this important, well let me tell you. A memristor can save its electronic state even when there is no current flowing through it, aka it’s turned off. It can also remember a current flow so it’s a little bit more than just a binary one or zero which in electronics is denoted by on or...
