Some Thoughts on Bobby Cox

As I wrote a few years ago when Greg Maddux retired I’m also a big fan of the legendary Bobby Cox. Because of this last weekend I flew down to Atlanta with my buddy Mike Ewing for Bobby Cox’s final regular season game as a Major League Baseball Manager.

I’ve been watch Bobby call the shots from the dugout for almost as long as I can remember.  I also remember the string of 14 straight division titles he delivered to Braves fans.

If I had the time I could go on and on with all the great memories from the man.  The legendary way he got thrown out of games or the records he holds.  The game on Sunday was a little emotional, but it was great to see the Braves pull it out in the end and make it to the playoffs for the first time since 2005.

The Final Pitch

Billy Wagner throws the final pitch (and his final regular season pitch as he’s already announced his retirement).  The crowd gets loud enough to mess with the microphone.

The Tomahawk Chop

In case you have never seen one before.

The Tool Race

Although not as well known as the Sausage race in Milwaukee or the Presidents race in Washington DC the Atlanta Braves do have their own race between innings.
