A Fall Visit To The Blue Ridge Parkway

A couple of weeks ago Heather and I went up to Asheville for the weekend with some friends. We took part of the day on Saturday to take a ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway and do a short little day hike up the Richland Balsam. Richland Balsam is the highest point along the parkway. If you are a big fan of fall foliage or the mountains then you might enjoy looking through some of our better photos. Fall on the Blue Ridge Parkway   The Richland Balsam Nature...

4th of July Weekend in Boston

Heather’s parents were in town over the 4th of July weekend so we did what any good host would do and took them all over Boston.  Here are the most interesting pictures of the weekend.  Sorry no firework pictures this year but if you want those then you should check out my 4th of July firework extravaganza post from last...

First Fly Fishing Trip to Vermont

First Fly Fishing Trip to Vermont

One of my HubSpot work buds, Dave Shepherd, and myself went fly fishing in Vermont yesterday.  We spent the day out on the Black River which feeds into the Connecticut River.  Before doing Dave bought his new canister filter special for this trip. Dave is a regular fly fisherman and this was my first fly fishing experience.  Although I’ve done quite a bit of fishing in my life I’ve just never used a fly rod before.  He was nice enough to teach me enough of the basics you need to dig in. One of Dave’s sayings is, “If you can catch three fish in a day then it was a GREAT day!”.  Combined that is exactly how many fish we caught although we did hook more than twice that many other fish that got away. I really do miss just getting away...

Pictures from PAX East

Last Sunday I went to PAX East with my buddy TJ.  It was very much a nostalgia event for me.  With all the hardcore gamers (all sorts of games) it reminded me a lot of back in the day when I used to spend hours creating D&D characters, mastering Super Mario Brothers or building a Magic: The Gathering deck.  Even the Warhammer 40K games brought back some memories of the Space Wolves army I used to have. I really liked seeing some of the really old games but PAX East is definitely focused on the shiney new toys.  Those shiney new toys are all about video games these days.  The most interesting shiney new thing I saw was a working demo of Duke Nukem Forever.  The idea that this game was coming out soon has been a running joke for a decade now.  It looks like it...

Happy Halloween 2010

Not a whole lot to say.  This photo just about sums it all up. I was just going for the look of a pirate, but some people thought I was Captain Jack Sparrow.  You make the call. Photos taken by...

My Latest Website Side Project (#mikefights)

For about six months now whenever I hang out with my buddy Mike Petroff we always end up staging hilarious pictures of us posing in fights and push them out to twitter.  At the HighEdWeb conference this week we decided to step up the game a little.  We had a running hashtag where we started posting lots of pictures and finally did what I always end up doing.  Pushing things too far and go and create a website for it. So here you go mikefights.me!  This is the first time I’ve used tumblr and so far I’m really impressed.  I’m not sure what all we have in store for the site, but until we figure it out be sure to get your follow on!
